Nov. 16, 2009 - PRLog -- Long Island Pulse magazine, a leading lifestyle magazine and one of the country’s largest regional publications, announced the roll out of 2D barcode technology for the first time in its November issue.  2D technology enables readers to use their Internet-enabled cell phones to snap a picture of a special matrix-like barcode, launching them into an Internet site where they will receive in-depth product information, promotions, digital videos, product reviews, editor tips, related data and more.  Long Island Pulse Publisher Nada Marjanovich made the announcement.

Already widely used in Europe and Asia, 2D barcode technology gives publishers and advertisers a way to offer content that otherwise would not be instantly available on demand to readers.  Long Island Pulse will be using 2D barcodes based on ScanLife, a leading global provider of mobile barcode solutions that use the camera phone as the link between the physical world and the digital world.

“Long Island Pulse is the first U.S. title to widely embrace 2D technology,” said Nada Marjanovich, Publisher and Editor, Long Island Pulse magazine. “Our top market readership is highly consumer driven and tend to be early adopters; we offer the perfect pedigree for this new technology and are in a unique position to connect advertisers with our readers in a cutting-edge way.”

A first for a regional magazine, and a first for a Long Island publication, Long Island Pulse’s November issue will offer readers “Free Stuff,” the opportunity to immediately shop online for products they read about in the magazine, download promotions and share information.

Here’s how it works.  To get it free:
1.   Open the web browser on your phone
2.   Go to: get.neoreader.com
3.   Follow prompts to download NeoReader

To use it:
1.   Open the NeoReader App on your cell phone
2.   Hold it in front of the 2D barcode
3.   Take a picture of any Long Island Pulse 2D barcode
4.   Click as if you’re taking a picture
5.   Enjoy Free Stuff!

Long Island Pulse magazine’s marketing efforts to support the 2D rollout include a public education program geared towards marrying the image of the 2D barcode with the phrase “Free Stuff.”  Readers will learn about the rollout in the magazine, on local radio, at www.lipulse.com, and in out-of-home advertising.  “The basis of our campaign is to motivate usage with the phrase ‘Free Stuff,’ said Nada Marjanovich.  “We want to build awareness, excitement and activity surrounding the rollout for our advertisers.”

National brands already using 2D technology include Nike, Ralph Lauren, Coca-Cola, Frito Lay, Sears, Golf Digest, and others.
