Although the pressure is still on for energy companies to reduce their prices, Tuesday's fall in British gas prices was welcomed as it was seen that supply for the oncoming months would be steady.
There was a worry that the sudden cold snap and increased demand would expose weaknesses in the supply but this didn't happen. probably helped by solid supply from Barrow, LNG and Norway's Langeled pipeline.
Whether this fall translates to price cuts for the UK's domestic customers is still to be seen as this is one of the major complaints recently regarding the UK's energy suppliers.
British Gas, EDF Energy, Scottish Power, NPower, EON and Scottish and Southern, otherwise known in the industry as the Big Six have been investigated by Ofgem for colluding and to find an answer as to why wholesale price drops in gas and electricity don't always translate to cheaper gas and electricity bills for domestic customers.
