Nov. 10, 2009 - PRLog -- Lexington, KY – Dryer vent installation technicians strongly advise homeowners to use only rigid metal dryer duct material.  Those who still have the old vinyl, plastic or flexible foil are asking for trouble.

Keith O’Loane, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard, is passionate about educating consumers about dryer vent maintenance and safe dryer vent installation.  One of his recent customers in Lexington thought her dryer was wearing out when it started to take longer to dry a load of laundry.  Eventually, the problem worsened; the dryer began to over heat and the laundry room became excessively hot and humid.  

Keith explained to the customer that this is a sure sign of lint build up in the dryer exhaust ducts.  “This is a serious fire hazard,” said Keith.  “Lint is highly combustible; a small spark from inside the dryer will cause the lint to ignite.  If you have the old vinyl or plastic dryer duct then this will add more fuel for the fire.  Dryers can throw a spark; if the dryer vent system is made of rigid metal, is clean and properly installed, the spark will likely burn itself out before any harm is done.”
