Jaron Tate to realize his dream while NBC watches

Wilmington, N.C. – Jaron Tate listed “completing a triathlon” among his long range fitness goals when he first signed on as a contestant on Season 3 of “The Biggest Loser” three years ago. This weekend, he will attempt to realize his goal at the Beach2Battleship Iron Distance Triathlon in Wilmington. According to producers, the hit reality series on NBC plans to tape him at the event to use as part of their “The Biggest Loser, Where Are They Now?” Thanksgiving special.

The November 7th event will include a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile run. Tate, 31 and originally from Hot Springs, Arkansas, debuted on the 2006 show weighing in at 323 pounds, and lost 163 pounds to reach his goal weight of 163 by the show’s end, coming in sixth place. Since then he has competed in several triathlons including sprints and half iron distances, as well as finishing a 100 mile bike ride. He has also become an AFTA and AFAA certified personal trainer to share his health and fitness knowledge with others.

“Racing in the Beach2Battleship iron distance triathlon is the culmination of a dream I set 140 lbs ago, and you never know what will happen on race day when you take on a 140.6 mile athletic endeavor,” said Tate, former competitor on NBC’s Biggest Loser. “You train and prepare like you should, but an event like this strips you down to your core, revealing emotions of every kind."

Beach2Battleship will begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2009 with the swim segment starting at Wrightsville Beach. Over 1,400 athletes are expected to compete in the event, presented by New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Intracoastal Realty. Competitors from 41 states and 12 nations outside of the United States are registered for the event.

NBC's hit series "The Biggest Loser" will catch up with some of the series' most popular contestants from the past seven seasons in the two-hour Thanksgiving special, airing Wednesday, November 25 (8-10 p.m. ET). Season eight of "The Biggest Loser" airs currently on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET. More than 40 contestants from seasons one through seven will be featured, showing how they look now and sharing what they've been doing with their lives since being on the show.
