The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani provides an atmosphere that nurtures techies and whiz kids who are encouraged to do what they believe in. October each year is the time of metamorphosis of the Institute and the quaint town Pilani in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan turns into a pulsating amalgam of youth.
For BITSians OASIS is the widening of the mind and of the spirit and epitomizes the process by which a person becomes all that they were created capable of being. With "Flipside" as the theme, the 39th All India Cultural Festival OASIS 2K9 is scheduled from 27-31 October 2009. The 96 hours of nonstop excitement and entertainment has a spectrum of On Stage and Off Stage Music, Dance, Theatre, Poetry, Photography and whole lot of Creative events.
For the college youth of the nation, OASIS indeed is much more than an isolated area of vegetation in a desert and once in a lifetime experience that no one even remotely connected with it once, would even dream of missing ever again. For BITSians OASIS is all about Passion driven by Passion and that is why it continues to remain as the jewel in the crown among college festivals in India.
Youngsters from all over the country have converged at Pilani for this year OASIS to experience the "Flipside" which promises the tranquility, the hysteria, the liberation and the celebration of the unconventional. The popularity of OASIS year after year itself is a testimony to Brand BITS Pilani. No wonder that this year OASIS has a fantastic bundle of sponsoring organizations.
On 27th evening, Rahul Bose the actor, screenwriter, director, social activist as well as rugby player who in short is a bundle of talents gave OASIS 2009 a thought provoking start. Rahul mesmerised the audience with his I have a dream speech and in short his dream wished for the absence of every known evil one could think of. According to him, while there are a thousand manifestations of evil on this planet, perhaps the single most instinctive evil is discrimination.
Rahul who is the founder of the NGO Foundation which aims to removes all kinds of discrimination is also on the board of Citizens for Justice and Peace, a Global Ambassador for the American India Foundation and a World Youth Ambassador for the World Youth Peace Movement
More importantly, it was an eye opener when Rahul pointed out that in the college everyone has 80 percent idealism and 20 percent responsibility while as one moves out of college it is 80 percent responsibility and 20 percent idealism. He urged the youth to carry on a largee percentage of idealism even after moving out of college.
Rahul Bose also interacted with senior officers of the Institute and shared his thoughts and concerns on issues pertaining to climate change etc. He has plans to interact with students on 28 October 2009 morning at the Lecture Theatre Complex of BITS Pilani.
