SLAM Global Invited to Participate in Newark Public School’s Thirteenth Annual Principal for a Day

One of New Jersey’s leading youth literary and performance arts organizations, SLAM Global, since 2006, has reached over 500 young artists statewide. Participating at Arts High School, Mt. Vernon and Rafael Hernandez Middle schools, from 8am-3pm, SLAM Global members will work alongside principals and staff towards establishing life long partnerships, aiding in the constructive support of our future leaders.

“I am excited to take part of such a worthwhile cause,” said Mr. Burch. “This is a great challenge, which I am sure will benefit everyone involved. There is a strong need for youth to take action, reaching for positive goals and higher education, but it is the duty of our community leaders, businesses, educators, families and local government to be proactive during their mission. ”  

Youth members of SLAM Global Enterprises participate in annual youth poetry competitions, from November through July. Prerequisites of participation have grown to include: maintained GPA of 3.0+, community service/volunteer hours, one on one mentoring and tutoring. “Impact” is one of the major components in the SLAM Global mission.

Background: SLAM Global Enterprises’ mission is to make a positive impact on the lives of children and young adults, primarily through a structured Arts Education, Life Skills and Mentorship program facilitated by professionals willing to assist participants in becoming aspiring, confident and determined individuals, working diligently towards a positive self image, safer community and improved quality of life.

In addition, the NJ Youth SLAM Team has been ranked in the top ten teams internationally, both 2008 and 2009; top five during the NY Knicks Teen Poetry Competition 2006-2009.
