Effective January 1, 2010 computers, monitors and TVs CANNOT be disposed of in the garbage or at disposal sites such as landfills, transfer stations and incinerators. Recycle these items FREE at NextStep Recycling.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Oct 20, 2009 -
Beginning Jan. 1, 2010, as part of on-going efforts to mitigate the amount of toxic materials ending up in our landfills, Oregonians can no longer throw away computers, monitors and TVs in the garbage. Landfills, transfer stations, and other disposal facilities cannot accept these items for disposal. Unwanted computers, monitors and TVs must be recycled instead. Public nonprofit, NextStep Recycling, accepts these items for FREE.

What separates NextStep from other collection facilities? NextStep's mission is REUSE before RECYCLING. Reuse save energy, conserve natural resources, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts, by reusing viable hardware before sending it to a recycling shredder.

NextStep has become the premier electronics collection facility in the Oregon Willamette Valley. Thanks to a fabulous response from the Oregon community, NextStep has refurbished over 18,000 computers, provided job and social skills training to hundreds of community members, recycled over 28,000 CRT monitors & 8,000 TVs, and recycled 6,000,000 lbs of obsolete electronics.

Is my donation to NextStep tax deductible? YES. Tax laws pertaining to donation of electronics are Section 170 of the Federal Income Tax Code, the New Millennium Classrooms Act, and the 21st Century Classrooms Act. Individual donors can deduct the current market value of a computer and if you are a business donor, you can deduct the un-depreciated value of the computer. Although recipients are not authorized to appraise the value of the equipment you donate, NextStep will provide you with a receipt that documents your donation for your taxes.

NextStep offers convenient hours for donation drop off in Eugene and Springfield, Oregon.
