Award-winning Short Film Stars Local Students, Offers Story of Confidence

Oct. 5, 2009 - PRLog -- Philadelphia, PA - “Tripping Up,” a short film starring two Lower Merion High School students, has been winning praise at film festivals and is now an Official Selection at the upcoming FirstGlance Philadelphia Film Festival. The film stars Leo Koorhan, currently a Sophomore at Lower Merion HS, and Laura Piccoli, a recent graduate of Lower Merion and currently a Freshman at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. The film screens Sunday, October 25 at 6:00 pm at The Franklin Theater at The Franklin Institute.

Written and directed by Greg Koorhan, Leo’s father, “Tripping Up” presents a tale of a clumsy boy, who, on the walk to pick up his date, has second thoughts that he may be out of his league. The five-minute film has already won Best Comedy at the West Chester International Film Festival and was selected as a semi-finalist in the Action-Cut Short Film Competition. "We made the film as a way for Leo and Laura to get exposure to the film production process," says Koorhan. “Here it is, a film about confidence and yet we didn’t expect it to be so well received!”

Koorhan, who is a principal in the marketing and video production firm Crossbow Studio, shot the film in Merion and Bala Cynwyd, both suburbs of Philadelphia.

Koorhan says, "The positive feedback from audiences and festival judges has encouraged us to produce a second film in the same genre. People keep telling us they want to see more uplifting stories like this."
