The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports over 15,000 fires annually, resulting in deaths, injuries and expense.  Fires can occur when lint builds up in the dryer or in the exhaust duct, blocking the flow of air and causing excessive heat build-up, eventually leading to a fire.
