Sept. 15, 2009 (ALBUQUERQUE)--New Mexico artist Meg Leonard, the official poster artist of the 2009 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, will show her work at Chroma Studios in Albuquerque in October.

Leonard, who lives in Placitas, works mainly in oils and pastels. She infuses her work with luminous color, often concentrating on natural landscapes. "Most often I am captivated by a quality of light, relationship of colors, or a brief, crystalline moment in the midst of change," she says.

Leonard is originally from Ohio. She lived in Wisconsin for 30 years working as a nurse, frequently visiting New Mexico to practice her other career in art. She recently made New Mexico her permanent home. She holds a BFA in painting and drawing from Miami University in Ohio, and has taken part in numerous group and solo shows both nationally and internationally.

Chroma Studios' owners, Paula Manning-Lewis and Aaron Lewis, say Leonard's show--25-30 landscape paintings and called "From Earth to Sky"--highlights the mission of their business.

"We're here to promote the art of New Mexicans," Manning-Lewis says. "The opportunity to show potentially hundreds of thousands of visitors to our area the work of this incredible local artist is a dream. Combined with the fact that we'll also be operating our artists' market the weekends of the Fiesta, we think we've got a great destination for the hours when the balloons aren't flying but people are still looking to celebrate and enjoy what makes our area unique."

Also going on that night, Chroma will feature its bi-annual Open Studios event at the downtown AND Central locations.

Chroma Studios is at 600 1st St. NW, Albuquerque, NM, 87102, at the intersection of 1st St. and Roma Ave, an easy walk from the Downtown Rail Runner stop. The entrance to the building is at the south side of the building from Roma. For more information on Chroma Studios, please visit http://chromastudios.wordpress.com. Co-owner Paula Manning-Lewis can be found on Twitter at @paulamannlewis. Chroma Studios recently expanded into the 1st Street location. It already has a smaller but successful set of studios near Central and University that will remain open. The new space has a large gallery and room for artists and creative professionals. It is filled only a few months after opening.
