Sept. 1, 2009 - PRLog -- Newport Beach, CA – The Doorpost Film Project is premiering the short film by Director Tom Wozny, titled “SHMILU” for the 2009 film competition finalist films round at www.thedoorpost.com/hope/shmilu.  Wozny was one of 10 filmmakers chosen from the entry round to be a finalist in the competition.

TheDoorPost.com provide Tom Wozny and the other 9 filmmakers $30,000 to make a 20-minute short film for the final round of judging.

The filmmakers were charged with making a film that depicted the topic of HOPE.  Wozny’s film SHMILU takes place in the not too distant future, our planet is a little darker the water is drying up and the lands becoming barren. Unable to produce crops scientists are replacing farmers.  But, Are they saving people or killing them? When Kyle Ryker's, (played by Joel Bryant) only love, his daughter Bella (play by Jade Pettyjohn) is caught in the middle, he travels down an emotional and dangerous path to face the truth.

This film is the seventh short film Wozny’s has made in 2009, and even more surprising is that this is year one in his career as a filmmaker.  The talent displayed in just this short amount of time shows he has a bright career as a Director in front of him.

“There is a lot going on in the world right now that people seem to feel the effect of.  This story was important for me to tell because I believe when people can see a better future, when people have a collective dream, that we can fix what we see wrong in the world.  I believe that hope is contagious and can inspire a movement,” said Wozny on his film SHMILU.

Wozny continued, “I also felt it was important to portray the impact children can have on this world and that what we show them and teach them now, molds and creates their hope and dreams for the future.  It is a little cliché, but true, children are our future, and they are more bright and capable than most give them credit for.  So show them what is possible and let them dream and create with you.  Then hope can truly live on!”

“I know I bit off quite a big story to tell in just 20-minutes but there was a story here that I wanted to tell, scenes I wanted to create.  This film has a back story to it, covering more on the state of the world at this time, the Earth Organization, how and why Bella was taken, it would be great to see this story done as a full feature,” said Wozny on this undertaking.

SHMILU and the 9 other final films can now be seen and voted on at www.thedoorpost.com from September 1 – 15.  The winner will receive the grand prize of $100,000!

The finalist will converge in Nashville beginning September 17, 2009 for thedoorpost.com symposium & awards ceremony where the winners will be announced.
