Hip-Hop music producer Quazedelic best known for his works with rapper Snoop Dogg and other artists like Redman and X-Clan- had a devastating tragedy hit his family this week. On August 25, 2009 his 22 year old sister Rochelle Strong lost her battle with the Swine Flu. This disease gone world-wide epidemic has been predicted to be one of the greatest mass spread sickness of this fall/winter season. Many young people don’t feel like something like the Swine Flu could happen to their family but it happened to Quazedelic’s family. Rochelle was his baby sister who loved and supported his music career, even spending time with him while he was working with Snoop Dogg. Quaze said, “A piece of my heart was taken from me when my baby sister left us. It’s crazy how she was OK one day and gone the next. It’s hard to believe that it’s real. There is no amount of fame or money that could fix the pain that I feel from this loss. I do however want to share our story with others especially in the hip-hop community, so people know that this is real and they need to be cautious.”
Rochelle Strong is originally from Everett, WA but moved to LA in June of 2008. She was diagnosed with Leukemia in May 2009. After a successful battle with the Leukemia disease she was on a two week break from the radiation treatments from City of Hope Hospital (Duarte, Ca). Although on break from the radiation she was happy, eating, playing with her children and relatively living a normal life. While on this break in Palmdale, Ca where she lived- she contracted the H1N1 virus. She didn't go any place out the ordinary, other than the park, local stores and markets. She came down with a simple cough and went back to the City of Hope to check it out. Three days afterward she was on life support and said that she wouldn't live. She battled on life support for three weeks and passed away from the Swine Flu H1N1 virus on August 25, 2009 at 1:45AM.
Rochelle is survived by her mother Roselyn Strong and father Melvin Strong. The mother (Roselyn) of who has her three children ages 3 months, 1 year and 5 years old. She is also survived by her 3 brothers Jamal Strong, Melvin Strong, Stanley Harris (Quazedelic)
After searching for resources that help families affected by the H1N1 disease, the family quickly found out that there is nothing in place to help families in an event that they have a life loss and need help with burials and support for children whose parents were lost. Not one local resource. “Rochelle will forever be remembered for her beautiful smile and great sense of humor”, said sister Malika Strong. More American's should take a serious look and thought to this increasing pandemic and plan for their families.
