Follow on Google News | American Wins WorldNomads.com Documentary Scholarship to VietnamWorldNomads.com announced today that for the first time an American has won its documentary scholarship. The winner hails from Grays Harbor, Washington and is a 24 year-old named Maranatha Hay.
By: Alexia Nestora After attending Wishkah Valley High School, Maranatha graduated from Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee with a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism. In an effort to combine her two loves (science and storytelling) In April, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced Maranatha’s nomination for a 2009 Emmy Award for her documentary ‘Security Dogs.’ Dressed in a bite suit, the then 22-year-old helped security dogs train by allowing the K-9s to attack her while Lt. John Marshall casually explained the details of police dog training. Maranatha will now have the opportunity to kick start her career by going on assignment to Vietnam with producer Trent O'Donnell. Trekking with a team of 20 volunteer doctors who will be providing vital medical services, she will create her own travel documentary and have it considered for broadcast on the Nat Geo Adventure channel. She will join a Buffalo Tours trek with a team of volunteer doctors deep into the picturesque Mai Chau Valley. The doctors’ mission is to set up temporary health clinics to provide vital medical services to remote hill tribes. Maranatha’s mission is to tell their story. “I’m just so thrilled to have this opportunity,” WorldNomads.com offers travel scholarships every quarter, its current scholarship is the opportunity to go with an on assignment National Geographic photographer to Antarctica.
