Healthcare Reform Would Create Thousands Of New Pharmaceutical Sales Rep Positions.

PR Log (Press Release) – Jul 27, 2009 – The NAPRx (National Association of Pharmaceutical Sales Representatives) issued the following statement regarding the agreement with the White House and the Senate Finance Committee to help close the coverage gap in the Medicare prescription drug program.

This marks an important first step toward a shared goal of providing high-quality, affordable health care to everyone in America.  We applaud the Senate Finance Committee for their commitment to comprehensive health care reform – one of the most challenging issues of our lifetime.  Health care reform is important to patients, the economy and the future of America.  

The Act brings affordable health care coverage to everyone by:
• Ensuring access to health coverage for all.
• Increasing affordability to put coverage within everyone’s reach.
• Guaranteeing that everyone can get insurance.  
• Giving working citizens tax breaks.
• Promoting prevention, wellness and personal responsibility.
• Reducing regulatory barriers to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness of care.
• Providing lower healthcare cost, more convenient options for accessing heath care services.
• Saving lives and reducing costs through Health Information Technology, such as e-prescribing.

“Everyone is working so hard on this because what’s at stake is a health care delivery system that works for everyone,” said CNPR Education Director, Brad Sullivan. “We have the best opportunity for comprehensive health care reform in one hundred years because the more people study the plan, the more they agree with what we have been saying since day one: if everyone pitches in and does their part, then everyone will benefit.”

Millions of uninsured and financially-struggling Americans are depending on us to accomplish comprehensive health care reform this year.  America’s pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies are signaling their strong support for these critically important efforts.  This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and, working together, we can make this hope for a better tomorrow a reality today.  With millions of more insured Americans the pharmaceutical industry looks to grow substantially over the next decade.

Congress has offered a comprehensive health care reform proposal that includes a complete overhaul of market rules and consumer protections to ensure that every American has guaranteed access to affordable, portable health care coverage and that all Americans participate in the system.  We have long advocated fixing the public safety net to make eligible for Medicaid all uninsured Americans living in poverty and to expand the children's health insurance program. Health plans also are fully committed to advancing cost containment and administrative simplification so that our health care system is put on a sustainable and fiscally responsible path.

While we strongly support the goal of simplifying health care choices for individuals and employers, it is crucial to develop an architecture with workable rules that ensures broad participation of health plans that offer a variety of coverage options.  Moreover, reform needs to preserve the ability of health plans to utilize existing tools to contain costs and avoid duplicative regulation that would drive up the cost of health care coverage for working families and small employers.
