July 2, 2009 - PRLog -- Silver Star Families of America Day, or just Silver Star Banner Day, is a day set aside to remember and honor the wounded and ill of our Armed Forces.

For May 1st of this year, 49 states, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Saipan and over 1,300 cities and counties across this great Nation signed proclamations in support of our wounded and ill.  800 of them have made the day permanent.

Big cities from Tampa, St. Louis, Los Angeles and Honolulu, to towns so small they are not even on the map, they all wanted to remember the sacrifices made for our Country.  Republican and Democrat, black or white, male or female, in the end we are just AMERICANS.  Patriotism is alive and well.

I could not be prouder that our own home state has gone one step further.  They have made the day a law.  Never again will the wounded ill and dying of our Armed Forces and our veterans ever be forgotten.  Governor you have our thanks and you have the thanks of our children.

And that is the mission of the Silver Star Families of America:  To remember, honor and assist the wounded, ill and dying from all wars.  And I am honored to report to you that our organization has gone from a group of 8 people----to an active organization of thousands of members and thousands of Alumni all across this country.  And I am so proud of them all.

From presenting Silver Star Service Banners to our wounded and ill, to our letter writing teams, to providing military surplus property to our homeless, to our incarcerated veteran program and finally to our Hospice program, the SSFOA has never ran from the hard jobs.

We will leave no veteran behind until they join with the Lord at their final duty station.

But as with most organizations, we cannot do everything ourselves; Support from other organizations has also been essential and I am a big believer in partnerships.  From my very own American Legion post, to the VFW, the Forty and Eight and the Marine Corp League we have all joined together to accomplish our missions.  I thank you all.

Ray Wasson, my very own rep, thank you Sir for your hard work.

And my family----Smile-----you’re my reason for living.

So in ending let me tell you the promise the SSFOA makes to our wounded and ill:

OUR PLEDGE TO THE WOUNDED AND SICK OF OUR ARMED FORCES

We pledge on our honor
To remember and assist the wounded and ill of our Armed Forces from ALL wars to the best of our ability.

We pledge that we will never forget
That we will always remember
The sacrifices you have made.

The blood sweat and tears that you shed
Will remain on our minds and in our hearts
And we will forever be grateful

We pledge that we will remind others
So that all remember
That you gave up so much
So that this Nation would not perish from the face of the earth.

God bless the United States of America
