According to the National Cancer Society there will be almost 200,000 new cased of prostate cancer diagnosed in 2098, and 28,660 men will die from prostate cancer. Prostate cancer can be termed a “silent assassin,” since there are few symptoms until the disease is advanced. Manhattan Beach, June 29, 2009. The Gentleman’s Club at Mira Costa High School may be the first ever group of high school students to take on the challenge of defeating prostate cancer. This talented and dedicated group of students spent six months holding events to raise funds to support the Prostate Cancer Awareness Project’s inaugural 2010 Tour de USA for Prostate Cancer Awareness (http://www.tourdeusa.org) Tour de USA 2010 Robert Hess, Founder and President of the Prostate Cancer Awareness Project will ride by motorcycle from Sacramento, CA to Washington, DC and back in August 2010 to draw national attention to the importance of testing for prostate cancer and to raise funds for annual testing for men without health insurance. Graduating Students The student presenters included Simon Peters, Collin Grant, Geneseth Santos, James Roberts, Nate Gong, Gentleman’s Club founder and President Lance Jung, Levi Stiffel, and Chad Kojouri. Prostate cancer is highly treatable if caught prior to metastasis. If treated early, 10-year survival rates are approximately 98%. However, if the early detection window is missed and the cancer has moved beyond the prostate itself, the 10-year survival rates drops to approximately 17%. # # # About the Prostate Cancer Awareness Project (PCaAP) The Prostate Cancer Awareness Project is a registered 501 (c)(3) nonprofit entity, FEIN 20-4509127.
