Humpback Whales arrive in Kimberley Waters

June 1, 2009 - PRLog -- A photo by local Broome whale enthusiast, Alice Ralston, has provided the first confirmed Humpback Whale sighting in Kimberley waters for 2009.  This is great news for the local whale watching industry and for the inaugural Kimberley Whale Festival, to be held on Sunday the 7th of June in Broome.

Large schools of bait fish, mackeral and tuna have been recorded between Broome and the Lacepede Islands, and in particular in the shallow inshore areas.  This is significant as the whales are known to feed on baitfish in the area.
