May 4, 2009 - PRLog -- The beautifully restored, historic Apollo Theatre in downtown Peoria, IL plays host to a highly unusual, unconventional, fun, and educational show on May 31 at 6:00 PM.  Entitled Magic, Music, Art, and Harriet, the show consists of two very different, but equally enchanting acts.  International award winning sleight of hand artist, Mitch Williams presents The ART of Magic!, his artistic, one-man, magical theatre show.  Joining him on the program will be Edith Barnard, "theater artist extraordinaire", with her exciting, musical, and historical portrayal of Harriet Beecher Stowe—the Woman Who Changed History.  Part of the proceeds for the show will benefit Look! It's My Book!, a program promoting literacy by providing books to school children in the Peoria area.

"We've specially created the show to reflect the 'See Change' theme of the One State: Together in the Arts Conference, a statewide gathering of arts educators and leaders that's coming to Peoria for the first time ever, June 1—2," says magician and show producer, Mitch Williams.  "It's a really big deal for Peoria to get this event, and we're excited that our show will act as a sort of 'night before/ kickoff event' to celebrate the conference being here.  We're offering $5 off regular admission to the show for registered conference attendees.  And we're also very pleased to be able to support the work of Look! It's My Book! in the Peoria area."

Mitch Williams is a full time professional magician who has performed in Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas, and Lake Tahoe, as well as in Japan, Canada and Europe, for venues as diverse as television, cruise ships, revue shows, nightclubs, theatres, and corporate events.  He has also presented workshops for other magicians throughout the country on how to approach magic as an actual art form, all to rave reviews.

Edith Barnhard holds a bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Illinois and a master's degree in "Theatre/Ethnomusicology" from the State University of New York in Binghamton.  For twenty-five years, she was sponsored by the Smithsonian Institute to tour throughout New England presenting her theatrical portrayal of Harriet Beecher Stowe, which she has performed in such prestigious venues as Boston's Constitution Hall and the Smithsonian Institute.
