The Y Factor is the sequel to Human By Choice, coauthored by Bain and Travis S. Taylor, Osborn's mentor. It is the second book of the Cresperia series.
The series tells the story of Earth's inadvertent first contact with the alien race of Cresperians, or "Crispies," when their ship wrecks in our solar system and the crew must bail in lifeboats, only a few of which make it to Earth.
The Crispies are an ancient civilization, with amazing abilities to tap into the quantum foam of the universe to perform seemingly miraculous feats. Their technology is equally advanced. As their presence is discovered on Earth, a new form of "space race" begins, as nations around the world vie for control of individual Crispies and their technology.
