April 16, 2009 - PRLog -- Jimmy Spice Curry is a living legend and was honored for his vast accomplishments.  Born in the Bahamas in 1965 (to Jewel Bowe-Curry and Fred Curry), he's lived in England, the Bahamas and America and has always been a creative inspiration to many.

His accomplishments are well documented and he was told that he is a true living legend.   Some in attendance wondered why more school children don’t know about him.  Mr. Curry theorized that since has consistently spoken out against abuse, on all levels, his voice is often hidden from the youth.

Jimmy Curry accomplishments are long and intriguing. First he wrote, directed, produced, edited and acted in the first Bahamian movie in history; it is called “Filthy Rich Gangster” and is an anti-gang violence movie.   He also wrote, produced, engineered and was vocalist on the first Bahamian Rap/Hip Hop song, it is called: “Fighting To Survive” and was released in 1984 on his own record label (and premiered on ZNS-Radio (with DJ Tony Williams).  He also wrote, produced, and voiced the historic first Junkanoo/Hip Hop record and song, it is called: Jammin’ To The Beat, and was released on his own record label.    He wrote, produced, arranged, and was recording artist on the first Bahamian Hip Hop/Reggae record, it is called: “To The Rescue”.   Mr. Curry also was Executive Producer, Promoter and Creator of the first “Bahamian Celebrity Games”, which was an exciting event held at the Queen Elizabeth Sports Center (and participants included cast members from the movie Filthy Rich Gangster, etc.)  Mr. Curry won song-of-the-year awards for the song he co-wrote (With Gino D/Eugene Davis) called: "Member When” (which they performed at the QE Sports Center to tens of thousands of fans during the Caribbean Music Festival.   Jimmy Curry was also featured vocalist on the track, with memorable lines like: “We used to go to the park and play horsy back, now we’re grown up jack.”    During subsequent years he created, produced and hosted the exciting: “Heroes” radio show on ZNS1, which his father, Fred Curry, funded. The show featured Bahamian talent like Floyd Saunders, Bahamen, Sir. Randol Fawkes, and more and was heard around the Bahamas and parts of Florida.  He also organized and promoted a march from the Bahamian parliament building to West Bay Street, to commemorate the day that Sir. Lyndon and Sir. Randoll took over the Bahamian parliament.   Further, Jimmy Curry was recognized for his work organizing and promoting the Bahamian Basketball Jam, and other events held at Paradise Island and around New Providence.

Mr. Curry was also recognized for his many other accomplishments including his directing and producing superstar Lenny Kravitz; Debbie Ferguson (Olympic Gold Medalist); Eldred Bethel (Former Counsel General to the United States); his work with various Fortune 500 firms, his work with Sugar Hill Records (legendary Rap record company), his anti-gun violence movie short: “Gun Lordz”, and his work with choreographer: “Lil' Milo” who is also his wife.  He has worked with many other award winners and celebrities and has new endeavors in production or negotiations. Often I think that our schools have taught people such hatred of their cultures, that these same people become adults with very real and serious intellectual and mental blocks and issues" he told the room of close friends, business associates and invited guests.

To stay focused, he has also stayed busy personally with his martial arts pursuits and has won (or placed 2nd) in various belt divisions (white, yellow, purple).   But, he stated that he is proud also of his commitment to helping lower the high levels of poverty in the world.

Mr. Curry ended the ceremony by saying:  “Although many more of my creations have been stolen by various celebrities, I’ve been blessed to have many creative ideas and the tools necessary to bring them to fruition. May I be a positive force in this world to bring positive change to our Earth and her inhabitants.”   He gave thanks to the many friends that were in the Bahamas including his friends at The Counselors, ZNS, Love-FM, More-FM, 100 Jams, The Tribune, The Guardian, The Punch, Cable Bahamas, Wong’s Printing, Bahamas Diesel, DHL, City School, Muck-A-Mucks, and the many community residents, both rich and poor, who continue to support him.  Mr. Curry has been in self-imposed exile from the Bahamas, until the political and business community give more support to Bahamian artists and youth.
