Follow on Google News | Detroit Shines with NCAA Final Four at Ford FieldDetroit was under the microscope this past weekend as the NCAA Final Four came to Ford Field right in the heart of the city.
By: Russell Bazaar The Spartans had a huge contingent of fans and supporters from all over covering the downtown area and enjoying the many different events and festivities. With many concert stages set up all over, many local businesses joined in the fray and hosted special events all weekend long. Basketball fans from all over the world combined with Metro Detroit residents to experience an exciting weekend that people of all ages could enjoy. The main attraction of the weekend were the two games played at Ford Field on Saturday, but the energy within places such as Coaches Corner, Bookies Tavern and Niki's in Greektown was absolutely electric. The weather Saturday was perfect and The River walk area hosted "The Big Dance". The boardwalk had multiple stages that drew thousands of people to see major headlining acts such as The Pussycat Dolls, N.E.R.D. and pop music superstar Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas. The party continued well into the night when the concerts ended. Detroit already has a bustling nightlife, but local hotspots like Bouzouki's, Eros Lounge and the brand new 5 and 10 bar were packed all weekend long. The economy in Michigan is receiving a well needed boost and it couldn't have come at a better time. Even with all of the hardships experienced over the past few months, Detroit definitely rose to the occasion this past weekend as the city and it's businesses shined with brilliance in the wake of the Final Four.
