March 27, 2009 - PRLog -- XLN Telecom, the UK’s leading telecoms company serving the small business community, has signed a strategic agreement with Opal, the committed provider of Next Generation Network (NGN) technology for the channel, that will allow it to leverage Opal’s powerful NGN to enhance its current broadband offering.

Opal’s NGN is the most advanced network of its kind in the UK and with over 1,650 exchanges across the country covers 80% of the UK population – 40% more than its nearest competitor.  The partnership will allow XLN to further improve its operational efficiencies, network quality and product offerings.

The agreement will directly benefit XLN’s customers, giving them access to faster upload speeds and more consistent streaming on the data-based services that Opal’s NGN delivers.  They will also benefit from the extremely reliable, high-speed ADSL2 connectivity of Opal’s network which delivers greater and more consistent speed over long distances when compared to current generation networks.

Anthony Karibian, CEO of XLN Telecom, commented:  “As part of our strategy to deliver the most compelling proposition for small businesses, we are delighted to have forged this relationship with Opal.  It follows swiftly on from our recent agreement with BT Wholesale and once again demonstrates our commitment to work with best-in-class partners.

“It likewise underlines the unique evolution of the UK telecoms industry that is now allowing us to successfully partner with organisations that until recently we may have viewed as direct competitors.”

In October last year, XLN Telecom announced a wholesale calls agreement with BT under which it offers its own-branded telephony services over the BT Wholesale network.

Andy Hollingworth, Opal’s head of the reseller and distribution channel, added:  “The move will allow XLN to leverage the many benefits of Opal’s NGN and will enable its customers to adopt true 21st century communications.  The significance of this move should not be underestimated, given that XLN is one of the biggest players in the B2B broadband market.  Not surprisingly, we are already experiencing demand from other business broadband providers that want to realise the same benefits of transferring their customer base to operate across Opal’s NGN.”
