So far we have done a lot of the relatively simple things, such as switching to energy saving light bulbs, using environmentally friendly cleaning products. But we have also started on some infrastructure improvements. We have installed modern efficient boilers, improved insulation and hot water controls and put heat recovery ventilation systems in some areas of the building.. So far we have reduced our oil consumption by over 50% and our electricity usage by 20%.
Throughout 2009 we are planning to install solar panels for hot water, air source heat pumps to heat the central parts of the building, and heat recovery ventilation in the rest of the accommodation.
We also supply our guests with information on other local business and suppliers who hold the Peak District EQM award, several of whom are farmers and produce suppliers. This gives our guests the opportunity to stay in the beautiful Peak District and also eat locally grown and produced foods.
