Charlotte, North Carolina-On Martin Luther King Jr.'s holiday, the Queen City Prep Trailblazers were on a mission. They competed for the championship title of this first annual tournament and came out on top. The tournament showcased talent from several different prep schools from the Charlotte area. The teams in this event included Quality Education Center, Carolina Prep Academy, NC Tech, Got Kids Academy and TBD Sports. The Trailblazers defeated Carolina Prep 117-114 in triple overtime. Milton Chavis led all scorers with 36 points. The Trailblazers went on to defeat NC Tech 78-76 for the championship title. Milton Chavis led the Trailblazers with 19 points and A.J. Roberts of NC Tech led all scorers with 24. Milton Chavis was the tournament MVP.
Coach Tony Taylor stated, "This is what you play for, to bring home a championship title. The kids worked hard and they see that the hard work pays off. This win was big for the team and should increase their determination going forward. I want to thank Elite 73 for inviting us to this first annual tournament and we will see them again at the second annual shootout."
