Canoe Sailing Magazine http://canoesailingmagazine.com celebrated its first anniversary January 20, 2009. As the sole publication focused on the art and sport of canoe and kayak sailing, Canoe Sailing Magazine bills itself as "The Global Voice of Canoe and Kayak Sailing" due to its worldwide readership and international focus.
"Back in October of 2007 I was trying to decide whether to restore my reproduction E.M. White sailing canoe, or build a new one." Said founder and publisher, Ed Maurer of coastal North Carolina. "I posted the thread “Time for a new sailing canoe...” in the Woodenboat Forum to pick the collective brains of my fellow WB “Forumites.”
During this year, Canoe Sailing Magazine has published about a hundred articles and has been read by more than 27,000 individuals on every continent, save Antarctica, for a total of more than 297,000 pages read and more than 41Gb of data transferred. As far as I can tell, it’s not too shabby for a pastime that’s so unknown to many people. So far."
Building on this success, Canoe Sailing Magazine established a presence sponsoring Facebook’s Canoe and Kayak Sailing Group http://www.facebook.com/
Maurer has also begun writing on Twitter.com http://twitter.com/
"Canoe Sailing Magazine is also a great venue for advertising focused on a global, active sailing crowd," said Maurer. "The magazine enjoys an ever-growing readership of active, self-sufficient and creative canoers and kayakers who often build or modify the boats they sail, as well as sail boats completed by commercial builders."
