Set in the 1890s against the glorious backdrop of the Rocky Mountains in Wyoming, a highrider, Puckett—also known as Puck—sets out to retrieve a kidnapped, eight-year-old Shoshoni Indian girl, Papu Banta.
When the kidnappers demand a ransom, the governor commissions Puck to revive the cold trail. Puck gathers a posse of sharpshooters, Indian guides, packers and a cook to ride the rough terrain. It is up to him to find the kidnapped girl and rescue her while navigating the turbulent river of distrust and displacement that courses between Indian culture and the White settlers.
