By Gena Ansell-Lande

Last summer while working in the Maternity Ward at Riverview Medical Center Lisa Madden, R.N. and Beth Battaglino Cahill, R.N. noticed a phenomenon among many of the new moms leaving with their babies. They were going home with a lot more questions than answers. As they say, “Necessity is the mother of invention” and thus Staying Sane LLC was born. At its core, Staying Sane provides integrated survival solutions and services for pregnant women, new moms and their families. They are fully staffed by registered nurses developed to assist newly pregnant, soon to be mothers and families throughout the all-important “quadmester™” (birth to 3 months of age).

However, it is so much more. When either pregnancy or postpartum hormones get the best of you, Staying Sane  is there to keep you sane. They have been there and done it all. In fact, Lisa has done it personally two times --she is a mom to triplets plus one. Considered a multiple birth specialist, she has spent many years working in the NICU unit.

“Today’s healthcare system is not providing the care and services it was able to do ten years ago,” says Lisa.  “Many new moms are going home with concerns about how to care for their baby’s most basic needs. Our own mothers stayed in the hospital for five nights and were more rested when they left. These days women are given 48 hours (for vaginal birth) and then they leave. Most of the time their milk hasn’t even come in yet.”
