Dec. 5, 2008 - PRLog -- Marks the final episode of Fuse Tv’s first season of Rock Bottom. The show chronicles the struggles of rising bands as they manage not only the daily challenges of the rock and roll industry, but also the devastation of an addicted band member. Each episode features intervention specialist Steven Lodge, who through his unique intervention style, works with band and family members to gently persuade the addicted band member to enter treatment.

Steven reports that the experience working with musicians has been amazing. “I’ve had the pleasure of working with some extraordinary talent. The band’s have had success working their way up through the ranks, but have been frustrated as they near the top. In all the cases, addiction, and one case of anger, has thwarted them from reaching their goals. The show offered each addicted band member the opportunity to accept treatment in an effort to arrest the disease, and allow them to move forward with their lives in a healthy way and to allow the band to break through to a higher level of play.”

Lodge points out that the intervention team members played a pivotal role in the success of the interventions. “Addicts are brilliant in their methods of resisting help for their addiction. They employ a variety of tactics including denial, rationalizing, and deflecting to maintain their disease. When band or family members try to confront them without proper preparation, there is little chance of successfully persuading them into treatment. We were fortunate to have great family and band member support and participation throughout the interventions we facilitated resulting in addicts accepting treatment in every case but one.”

Regarding the intervention process, Lodge describes his approach as a hybrid of several intervention models. “I use the Johnson model as the standard, but blend in other models on a case-by-case basis. Every family is unique and every addiction crisis has its own subset of issues. I find it best to assess the case, analyze the issues, and craft an intervention approach accordingly. Every case, however, uses an approach based on love and compassion, and each intervention strives to remove any form of anger from the process.”
