Fire-Fighter Combustible Dust Hazards Workshop-Industrial Fire, Safety, and Security Conference

Unknown hidden dangers are posed on emergency responders when responding to combustible dust related fires and explosions are addressed at the Combustible Dust Hazard Workshop during the 4th Annual Industrial Fire, Safety, and Security Conference

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Dec 03, 2008 – (Houston,Texas) A two day Combustible Dust Hazard Workshop for the nations’ emergency responders will be held in conjunction with the 4th Annual Industrial Fire, Safety, and Security Conference –IFSS 2009 http://www.ifssexpo.com/  at the Reliant Center (next to the Astrodome) in Houston, Texas, February 3-4 2009.

Over 2,000 emergency response and security professionals attended last year’s conference and exhibition. The conference includes over 200 exhibits, with over 70 speakers, and 35+ training workshops/ seminars.

The TradeFair Group is hosting  the 4th Annual Industrial Fire, Safety, and Security Conference in collaboration with the Combustible Dust Policy Institute http://combustibledust.com , which  has added a vital and educational dimension to its program with a two day Combustible Dust Hazard Workshop http://www.ifssexpo.com/conf_track.asp?ID=453#2099.

Workshop topics will introduce attendees to the hazards of combustible dust fires and explosions in the manufacturing, non-manufacturing, and utility sectors. Emergency Responders and other concerned stakeholders will acquire important information during the training workshops, which they can utilize on the job in identifying and evaluating combustible dust hazards when responding to emergencies.

In the past, fire-fighter fatalities and injuries have occurred when responding to combustible dust related fires and explosions. These occurrences could have been prevented if stakeholders  understood  the hidden and unknown dangers of combustible dust found throughout the diverse multitude of manufacturing facilities.

Currently a situational awareness is lacking nationwide that combustible dust also poses a potential explosive atmosphere in the same light as flammable gases, vapors, and mists. Instead of vapor cloud or BLEVE explosions that occur in the refining sector there are deflagrations and dust explosions in the manufacturing sector.

Day One of the workshop will include topics in preventing and mitigating future incidents through an understanding of identifying, evaluating and controlling the risk of combustible dust hazards.

Finally, Day Two of the workshop will include fire-fighting suppressions techniques, equipment, and training resources that are currently available. In addition to active participation through panel discussions, Fire Chiefs from around the nation that respond to combustible dust incidents will share successful fire-fighting tactics in combating combustible dust fires.
