Oct. 13, 2008 - PRLog -- Whether you work for the pointy-haired boss, Michael Scott or the world’s greatest manager, October 16 is the one day of the year you’re expected to show your appreciation unfettered by the promise of holiday bonuses or your next promotion.

The fine folks at Flowers By Michelle think Boss’ Day is as good of a reason as any to make sure your boss knows you appreciate A) having somewhere to go every day and B) getting a paycheck to keep from moving back in with your parents.

So what to get the boss who has everything? Something new! Here are a few tips to show that boss just how much you care…

1. Flowers. Lots of them. www.flowersbymichelle.com. While they think flowers are the answer to all of life’s occasions, they don’t actually recommend sending roses to your boss for this particular occasion…and perhaps not at all if you’re boss is a man. Especially if you are too. If your boss loves flowers and is very creative, try asking for a tropical or zen-type arrangement. They’ll light up her day and remind everyone else that they didn’t get her flowers. Average price: $70.

2. Gift baskets. Does your boss like to golf? Send him an assortment of golf balls, tees, a swanky towel for his or her golf bag and some ball markers. Does your boss like to party? Give her a bottle of Williams-Sonoma’s new margarita mix, some fancy salt and a set of margarita glasses. But don’t include the alcohol…you probably don’t know what brand she likes and don’t want her colleagues to think she’s a lush. Average price: $50 - $100.

3. Food. Who doesn’t like food? Your friendly florist can put together an assortment for any personality. For those who love the good life, an assortment of gourmet cheese, crackers, meat and chocolates. For the football fanatic, snacks to enjoy while watching the game in his favorite team’s colors. For the working mom, lots of chocolate for her and healthy portable snacks for the kids. Average price: $30-$50.

4. A plant. The gift that will live forever… if you have a boss that can remember to water it. If your boss likes plants but has a brown thumb, ask for a realistic silk arrangement. Average price: $40.

5. Gift card. This is kind of a cop-out, but ensures your boss will get whatever he or she wants for Boss’ Day…and know how much you spent. If you know a favorite store, pick up a gift card from there. If not, try a mall gift certificate that can be used for any store. Magic gift card number: $40.

So there you have it. Five stellar tips to remind your boss that his or her work is appreciated…and hopefully when bonus/promotion time comes around, you are too.
