Mollydooker 2007 Reds Are Among Wine Spectator’s Top Scoring Wines

In a review of more than 500 wines, Harvey Steiman, Wine Spectator’s lead taster of Australian wines and editor at large, gave top honors to Mollydooker Velvet Glove Shiraz McLaren Vale (96 points), Carnival of Love Shiraz McLaren Vale (95 points), Gigglepot Cabernet Sauvignon South Australia (92 points), and Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz South Australia (92 points). All four of these wines were listed as one of the “Great Australian Reds” as a “Top-scoring wine” from Wine Spectator’s annual report.  

Mollydooker Velvet Glove Shiraz McLaren Vale 2007 and Carnival of Love Shiraz McLaren Vale 2007 were among only 13 wines selected by Mr. Steiman in his list of recommended Australian reds.  Mr. Steiman refers to Velvet Glove as, “Lithe, generous and beautifully proportioned, offering a seamless array of dark plum, blueberry and sandalwood flavors wrapped in a veil of fine grained tannins. Finishes with an intriguing face-off of sweet fruit and spice that keeps on for quite a while.”

Equally exciting accolades were awarded to Carnival of Love which was one of the few “Highly Recommended” wines from this report. Mr. Steiman wrote about Carnival of Love, “Big, rich and terrifically ripe. A lithe mouthful of pure wild blueberry and Asian spices, with swirls of plum and other berries as the finish rolls on, unimpeded by tannins. In the end, this has elegance to go along with its power. Drink now through 2017.”  

Seven of Mollydooker’s current release wines were listed as an official “Spectator Selections – Best Values / New Releases: Argentina / Australia” including Mollydooker Velvet Glove Shiraz McLaren Vale 2007 ($185), Mollydooker Carnival of Love Shiraz McLaren Vale 2007 ($90), Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz South Australia 2007 ($55), Gigglepot Cabernet Sauvignon South Australia 2007 ($55), Enchanted Path Shiraz-Cabernet McLaren Vale 2007 ($90), The Boxer Shiraz South Australia 2007 ($25) and The Scooter Merlot South Australia 2007 ($25).  

Six of these award-winning wines were given a score of 90 points or higher by Harvey Steiman.

The production of the 2007 vintage is 50% less than their average annual production and the wines have already started to become difficult to find through retail outlets in many states.
