Imran Khan Receives Mother Theresa Humanitarian Award In Los Angeles

Sept. 11, 2008 - PRLog -- FOSAAC (Friends of South Asian American Communities) held its 5th Annual Awards Banquet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday, September 6, 2008.  The Awards Night brought together the South Asian and American Communities.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation and distribution of the awards. The awards, named after many influential members of the South Asian community, were given to members of the South Asian and American communities who have been successful in their chosen fields. Some of the awards featured at the awards banquet included the Mahatma Gandhi Award which is given for outstanding contributions to society and the Mother Theresa Award which is given as an award for humanitarian of the year.
 
This year, Pakistan's Imran Khan, received the Mother Theresa Award for his continuous humanitarian work with Shaukat Khanum Hospital and Namal College.  Imran Khan was unable to attend the event, therefore, Ms. Farrah Khan received the award on his behalf.  Imran Khan personally thanked the guests via a phone call from Pakistan.  
 
The Chief Guests of the event were Antonio Villaraigosa, the Mayor of Los Angeles & Mrs. Maneka Gandhi who is a Member of Parliament in India . In addition to the chief guests, the event served as host to many several high-profile political dignitaries (Mike Honda, Vice-Chair of the Democratic National Committee), businessmen and celebrities from both the United States and India .
 
Fundraising for Shaukat Khanum Hospital and Namal College in California is underway with proposed dates in early November of this year.  Ms. Farrah Khan is heading the fundraising campaign in California with support from USC, UC Berkeley, Stanford and Chevron Corporation.  Those interested in joining the effort may contact Ms. Khan at farrahnk@yahoo.com.
