Silver Star Families of America
Today it was announced that the Silver Star Families of America, an organization founded to remember and honor the wounded and ill of our armed forces, has reached the 1 million dollar mark in donated volunteer hours and materials.
“It is remarkable to me, that while operating on a shoestring budget, the members of the Silver Star Families of America were able to give so much back to those who have given so much to us,” stated National President Janie Orman.
SSFOA volunteers have donated 47,912 hours valued by the Veterans Administration at $934, 763, 00. They have also donated over $40,000 in Silver Star Banner distribution and $30,000 in direct aid such a homeless stand downs, care packages, supporting hospitalized veterans and other programs.
Steve Newton, founder of the organization said, “This is a tribute to our members. They are the Silver Star Families and the ones who work so hard for our wounded and ill service members. But while we have come a long way we have so much further to go. We can use all the help we can get to continue to assist those who sacrificed and continue to sacrifice for our freedom.”
