Arlington, Texas – Local Dallas-Fort Worth celebrities will team up with cats who will to jump through hoops and run through tunnels to raise funds for local rescue groups and help homeless cats and kittens find forever homes. The Show Down at the ICAT Corral will be held in conjunction with The International Cat Association (TICA) 2008 Annual Cat Show in Arlington, Texas on August 30, 2008.
Two teams of two local celebrities--
ICAT is the founding organization of cat agility. During the ICAT competition, cats run through an obstacle course in a fenced-in area of the show hall. They will jump through hoops, run through tunnels, and weave around obstacles, working with their owners much as dogs do in their agility competitions. “Clean runs” are valued over fastest times, but both are important in determining the winners of the ribbons and cash prizes being offered for the event. Cats with “clean runs”, that is, no faults or refusals on the course, earn points toward cat agility titles. Cats can also earn agility skill certificates at the show, for completing required numbers of obstacles in a qualifying time with a limited number of “faults” or refusals.
“The Show Down at the ICAT Corral will help raise funds for many homeless cats and kittens that the Humane Society of North Texas and Little Orphan Angels takes in, takes care of and helps place in forever, loving homes,” said Cheryl Hogan, TICA South Central Regional Director. “Thanks to the celebrities who are willing to run the course with agility cats, the two organizations will be able to take in more cats and kittens who may not have had a chance at finding that loving home that they deserve!”
After the Show Down at the ICAT Corral, cats and kittens will compete for titles in cat agility during timed events held in conjunction with TICA’s two-day 2008 Annual Cat Show on August 30-31, 2008 at the Arlington Convention Center. In addition to cat agility, cats from around the world will compete in twelve rings of judging in the championship cat, kitten, alter, household pet and household pet kitten divisions. The top three cats and kittens in the divisions at the end of the show will be named Best of the Best. In addition to judging, Royal Canin’s Parade of Champions will showcase a cat from every breed represented at the show. The Super Star Cat Photo Contest open to the public will also be held during the show.
