Jesse James of West Coast Choppers Fame Unveiling One-Of-A-Kind Motorcycle To Be Toured Nationwide

Jesse James Unveling Custom Motorcycle to Be Toured Nationwide and Raffled to Raise Funds for Angels of East Africa.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Jun 15, 2008 – Jesse James, owner and founder of West Coast Choppers, will present Pastor Sam Childers and his humanitarian organization, Angels of East Africa, with a custom chopper motorcycle at a charity event to be held June 16th at the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica. The special evening will honor Childers, a former biker, who has since dedicated his life to helping refugees and orphans in crisis, war ravaged areas of Sudan and Uganda.

The one-of-a-kind, “chromed-out” chopper, designed by Jesse James and fully funded by an anonymous donor, features autographs of several rock and country groups and a custom paint job that includes a portrait of the suffering children in Africa. Named the “African Bike”, the motorcycle will be the subject of a national touring exhibit to promote the charitable work of Angels of East Africa and the orphanage created by Childers in Sudan, known as Children’s Village.

Childers hopes to increase attention of the plight of Sudanese and Ugandan citizens caught in the crossfire of the rebel atrocities taking place in the region. At the end of the year-long tour, the bike will be raffled and awarded to one lucky winner. The drawing will take place at the Thunder in the Valley motorcycle rally in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Raffle tickets can be purchased online for $20.00 at www.angelsofeastafrica.org and at every stop along the tour. Proceeds from the raffle will help to purchase a much-needed airplane for the organization that will be used to rescue children, as well as carry food, supplies, and medicine to those who desperately need help.

Sam Childers, an unorthodox pastor from Pennsylvania, organized Angels of East Africa over a decade ago after a trip to Sudan to aid in the removal of land mines from the area. While there, the former biker, who rode with the Hell’s Angels, witnessed unforgettable devastation that the unstable political situation had created including torture, murder, disease, and starvation. After his first visit to Sudan, he returned several more times and soon became determined and driven to do whatever was needed to help the children of East Africa.

Angels of East Africa’s Children’s Village began simply as a mosquito net hanging from a tree to provide a place of safety for children who were rescued. Thanks to private donations, Childers was soon able to buy 40 acres in South Sudan and began building small mud huts to house those in need. He also hired armed soldiers to defend the orphanage against potential rebel fire. The first rescue mission brought more than 20 children to the base. Since then, Childers and his team have rescued, restored, and enabled over a thousand children who would otherwise not be able to protect themselves. The orphanage has grown to include dormitories, lavatories, a basic medical clinic, a workshop, a library, and a small farm. The property now also includes a playground, the first of its kind in South Sudan.

‘After we put in the playground, we saw some of the children smile and laugh for the first time,” says Childers. “The children suffered less from their nightmares. The screaming in the middle of the night suddenly stopped.”
