How’s YOUR driving? - Genesis Communication

Vehicle Tracking from Genesis Communication – One of the best ways to control risk management and comply with Government Duty of Care Guidelines.

May 23, 2008 - PRLog -- How’s YOUR driving?

Anybody who does frequent motorway miles will have seen (and probably ignored) the bumper stickers on the back of vans and Lorries. How’s my driving? Call 0800 NOSY *******

In all seriousness though, have you ever stopped to think, how is my company’s driving?

If you operate a fleet of vehicles it is something worth thinking carefully about.

If you are an employer you will have ‘Duty of Care’ obligations to adhere to. These are in the interests of health and safety and the welfare of employees. Fleet operators are obligated to run a fleet of vehicles which are safe for both employee and employer.

In 2007, the UK Government introduced the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act.

Sound scary? Well it should do, because under this new legislation, senior executives can be prosecuted for failing in their Duty of Care.

Employers also have obligation under the Road Traffic Acts of 1998/1991 and The Road Vehicle (Construction and Use) regulations 1986 to ensure that their vehicles are safe for drivers.

This legislation makes it important for companies to carry out risk assessment, in order to identify potential road risk and implement necessary risk reduction strategies. This is even more important when you consider that traffic accidents have cost the nation £32 billion in lost productivity and ill health of workers.

How then do you go about this risk management? Well one of the most effective ways is by using vehicle tracking systems.

Vehicle tracking enables you to constantly monitor the performance and efficiency of your vehicles. You can also see the exact location of your vehicles and the independent behaviour of your drivers.

This will allow you to create an effective risk strategy and at the same time make your fleet more efficient and hence, cost-effective.
