Los Angeles: The Chaytor Foundation donates awards honoring the best writers in fiction and journalism. The Chaytor Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Alphar Publishing Company and the Chaytor Awards shine a spotlight on the best and brightest talent in journalism and fiction.
A short list of finalists for the Awards, honoring excellence in journalism, will be announced by the Chaytor Foundation and Elsinore Times on May 12.
The awards will be presented during a Spring dinner at the Chaytor Foundation Resort. These awards celebrate the role of journalism and novelists in a democratic society and we are proud to recognize the best fiction writers and journalists. Our country and our communities are better places because of the work honored by these awards.
The journalist awards are open to all U.S. news organizations, and recognize excellence in various categories, including editorial writing, human interest writing, environment, investigative, public service reporting, commentary, radio and television reporting, and online reporting.
Writers are evaluated by a panel of judges selected by the Chaytor Foundation. The finalists will be chosen by a team of distinguished journalists during a two-day event on the Chaytor Foundation campus. Winners in each of the categories will be announced at the Chaytor Foundation Banquet. The judges followed a strict recusal policy, leaving the judging room during discussions and not voting in any category in which their own sites came up for review.
The Chaytor Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to its core values of improving journalism and a free press. We really do believe we can make a difference, and we strive to apply our available resources accordingly.
