April 23, 2008 - PRLog -- Paul F. Davis author of God vs. Religion was blessed to hear Senator Hillary Clinton speak of her faith and experience feeling the Presence of the Holy Spirit on many occasions, but was appalled to read some of the comments written by conservatives who call themselves Christians.

Senator Clinton who grew up a Methodist and carries a Bible with her daily said of her faith: “I believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and I have felt the presence of the Holy Spirit on many occasions in my years on this earth. I pray, I read the Bible, I read commentary on scriptures, I read other people’s faith journeys. That is, for me, at the real core of how I keep feeding my faith. And, I was lucky because, as I said at the faith and politics event, I was taught to pray and I inculcate it as a habit in my daily life.”

Davis author of United States of Arrogance noted in the interview conducted by New York Times reporter Michael Luo with Senator Clinton in July, 2007 that Luo said: "The thing that we started talking about in the beginning was how Republicans seem to have the corner store on faith for a long time. It seemed like when you gave that politics and meaning speech back in the day that you got a hard time for it."

Davis notes the tendency for conservatives to politicize their faith and demonize anyone of a different political ideology. Davis says: "Such a self-righteous tendency is neither Christ-like, nor godly. Jesus never entertained, nor played politics (Matthew 22:17-22; John 6:15; Acts 1:6-8).

Jesus embraced people. To use politics and ideological opinions in such a divisive fashion, while putting God's name on your agenda in an attempt to moralize your position is utterly devilish and downright evil."

Davis says, “Scripture exhorts us to stand against the works of darkness, but love all people whether they be in the light or dwelling in darkness. God makes the sun to shine on both the good and the evil. Yet when we self-righteously alienate people for whom Christ died and remove the opportunity for redemption, we ourselves play God and hinder their progression and spiritual growth.”

Paul F. Davis exhorts: “We must remember sanctification following salvation is a process. Only by mercy and truth is iniquity purged (Proverbs 16:6). Conservatives would do well to show some love and mercy before demonizing people who put faith in Christ. Before you point the finger, humble yourself to pray and tenderheartedly reach out to the individual.”

Davis read a post by Grant Swank posted on March 6, 2008 at the American Conservative Daily website which read:

“Number One: Hillary cheers abortuaries throughout the world. She is ecstatic when speaking about women’s rights. And of course that is masking for “abortion.”

“Number Two: Hillary is definitely on the side of homosexual match-ups. These further diseases such as AIDS/HIV and a new bacteria that can spread uncontrollably: methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA. She’s in the active homosexual corner without doubt.”

“Just those two ethical positions do not line up with the Bible. Then she is a real-life evidence of what the New Testament calls “the spirit of Antichrist.”

Paul F. Davis author of United States of Arrogance and God vs. Religion says, “Womens rights extend far beyond the right to abortion. How about economic equality in the marketplace? The rights of pregnant mothers to be with their newborns and still have a job when they return to work? Believe it or not, Jesus loves homosexuals. Perhaps the American Conservative Daily was too busy bashing people to take time to read their Bible.”

1. Jesus is a friend of sinners (Luke 7:34).

2. Jesus heals women with issues (Matthew 9:20-22).

3. Transformation can happen in the twinkling of an eye (1 Corinthians 15:51-52).

4. God changed murderous Saul and a rebellious kind in a moment (Acts 9; 1 Samuel 10:6,9).

5. The antichrist does not confess Jesus came in the flesh, which Hillary does. So Hillary is not the antichrist (1 John 4:3).

6. God is love, which is patient and kind (1 Corinthians 13). Let we who are born of God be likewise.

7. Give people room to grow in grace without prematurely judging them (2 Peter 3:18).

Incidentally, to be antichrist is to be anti (or against) the heart and nature of Christ. Since Jesus was gracious to people (Luke 4:22) and God is love (1 John 4:16) , perhaps the spirit of "antichrist" has crept into the American Conservative Daily and afflicted they who call themselves “conservative Christians” throughout America.

Even the World Net Daily and CBN (bastions of conservatism) only went so far as to say Senator Clinton believes in the resurrection, but is not sure Jesus is the only way.

Calling Hillary ambivalent about the necessity of belief in Christ for salvation is one thing, demonizing her and labeling her the antichrist is an absurdity. I guess such hypocrisy and self-righteous tendencies are the norm at the American Conservative Daily.

The cancer of self-righteous conservatism needs to be dealt with throughout America.

Jesus said: “Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called the children of God” (Matthew 5:9).

“As many as touched Jesus were made perfectly whole” (Matthew 14:36). God forbid that conservatives misrepresent the heart of Jesus and keep people from drawing near to Him.

God liberate us from the disease of dead religion and self-righteous conservatism.

Grace and peace.
