March 3, 2008 - PRLog -- D-Link UK, - D-Link®, the end-to-end computer networking solutions provider for consumers and business, today announced the launch of the Quadband DIR-855 Wireless N Router and related USB adapter (DWA-160). Engineered to maximise speed, range and performance of a wireless network when running multiple devices including high-definition (HD) media players, the DIR-855 can support true concurrent 802.11n transmission over both 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels at the same time. Therefore it supports multiple wireless devices with up to 600Mbps of available bandwidth.

D-Link considers devices such as the DIR-855 as the future of 802.11n; due to their capability to utilise the 5GHz radio band. This radio frequency is wider and less crowded than the 2.4GHz radio frequency used by most wireless devices (including consumer devices such as baby monitors, Bluetooth adapters etc) today. With up to 23 non-overlapping channels available on the 5GHz radio band, compared to only 3 on the 2.4 GHz band, users are sure to experience the full speed and Quality of Service needed to run even the most delay sensitive applications, such as HD TV streaming.

The new D-Link Wireless N router deploys D-Link’s unique StreamEngine Quality of Service (QoS) technology that automatically prioritises high-bandwidth, latency-sensitive wireless data traffic, providing digital home consumers with an unsurpassed user experience that delivers smooth streaming HD video, lag-free gaming and jitter-free Voice over IP (VoIP) calls. This technology previously earned D-Link numerous awards for the DIR-655.

"The digital home is now a reality. With recent advancements in rich media and digital communications, underpinning the success of convergence is networking equipment that’s capable of seamlessly connecting various technologies in a single unified communication network," said Kevin Wen, President of D-Link Europe. "D-Link is addressing this emerging digital home market with the introduction of the DIR-855, which simultaneously uses two radio bands for optimised home media networking. The new quadband design along with the latest advances in the 802.11n wireless standard, helps us bring to market a very advanced router capable of handling the most bandwidth-intensive applications whilst promoting good neighbourhood policy and avoiding further congestion", added Wen.

The DIR-855 is optimised to work with the DWA-160 Wireless N USB Adapter. The duo technology in the DWA-160 supports selectable dualband (2.4GHz or 5GHz) wireless signals. This allows you to segregate your network by application, for instance checking e-mail and browsing the Internet using the 2.4GHz band and at the same time reserving the clear 5 GHz band for VoIP or media streaming. Both products are backward compatible, which means they can be used in existing 802.11g and 802.11a networks, hence the quadband appellation.  In addition, both the DIR-855 and DWA-160 support the new Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) which provides wireless users with a simple and easy way to secure their wireless network.

In addition, D-Link is for the first time implementing their Green Ethernet technology within a wireless router: the DIR-855 features 5 Green Ethernet Gigabit ports, adding best environmental practice to best performance. To prevent inevitable attacks from the Internet, the DIR-855 uses Dual Active Firewalls (SPI, NAT) Technology to help secure the entire network and personal user information. The router also includes D-Link’s respected Click’n Connect utility, a wizard designed to easily guide anyone without prior technical knowledge through installation.

With 3 dual external antennae for best coverage and an OLED network activity display, the DIR-855 provides state-of-the-art performance and protection for home users looking to make the most of their broadband Internet connection now.

The DIR-855 is covered by D-Link’s unmatched 11-year warranty for all its Wireless N products, demonstrating the company’s commitment to this new wireless technology.

Price and Availability

The D-Link DIR-855 Quad-Band Wireless N Router will be available from May 2008 with a recommended retail price of £169.99 including VAT.
