FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Feb 28, 2008 – Springfield, MO  -- From the polar bears of the arctic, to the grizzly bears of the Rocky Mountains, global warming has become a very real threat. Now, a new Web site by the name of Bear Planet (http://www.bearplanet.org) has launched with the goal of documenting bear habitats around the world.

Twenty years ago the words “polar bear” conjured up thoughts of an icy tundra with nothing but snow as far as the eye could see. Now, as the threat of global warming has gone from a debate to reality, polar bears no longer conjure up the same vivid thoughts. Instead, people think of melting glaciers, greenhouse gases and a fading habitat. However, it's not just the polar bear (http://www.bearplanet.org/polarbear.shtml) that's being effected by global warming.

“Polar bears aren't the only species in danger,” said spokeswoman Gloria Gaccio. “They're just the first species to show obvious signs of change. Grizzly bears, black bears, panda bears (http://www.bearplanet.org/pandabear.shtml)... they all stand to lose habitat. Our site aims to provide the latest information on them all.”

While global warming is a popular topic of discussion on Bear Planet, it's not the only thing talked about. In its short life, Bear Planet has already become a valuable resource of information to college students researching bear topics.

“Our statistics show that a large part of our visitor base is coming from .edu IP's,” said Gaccio. “We are happy and proud that we are able to provide yet another free resource to students. Hopefully they will learn from our articles and help spread the word.”
