Pro/INTRALINK PDM Solution Interface Announced by MasterControl

MasterControl’s new Pro/INTRALINK interface allows users to collaborate and redline on PDF versions of Pro/INTRALINK drawings while guaranteeing that PDF copies in the MasterControl document control system remain synced with native files in the Pro/INTRALINK solution.

The ultimate purpose of MasterControl’s Pro/INTRALINK connector is to foster an effective communication environment by insuring the consistency of data between systems in order to achieve and maintain regulatory compliance. The user-friendly solution offered by MasterControl manages and tracks the creation, alteration and archiving of all information relating to the product being developed. The Pro/INTRALINK connector provides users with clear-cut means of applying document control to CAD data without obligating designers to use non-native applications for managing CAD files. All CAD files are maintained by the native Pro/INTRALINK solution while MasterControl creates PDF copies for routing, approval and production purposes. MasterControl’s Pro/INTRALINK interface also works seamlessly with MasterControl BOM™ to provide a unified organizational structure throughout the design and manufacturing processes.

Any MasterControl user—even one who lacks intimate knowledge of the CAD package in use—can redline and collaborate on a product’s CAD files using nothing more than Adobe Reader®. When collaborations introduce changes, collaboration leaders can make the required modifications using the native CAD application. Afterward, MasterControl automatically publishes a new PDF file that manifests all changes.

The MasterControl solution provides continuous and automatic monitoring for new and revised drawings in the Pro/INTRALINK solution. A PDF file is published by the MasterControl system for every new drawing using the metadata the Pro/INTRALINK solution provides. Likewise, revised drawings trigger automatic revisions within MasterControl which sends the metadata and drawing file from the Pro/INTRALINK solution to updated MasterControl “InfoCards.” These InfoCards are created by MasterControl for each new and revised drawing in the Pro/INTRALINK solution at a state defined by the user. This streamlined publishing process allows drawings to be automatically routed for collaboration and approval. Custom field data can also be sent from the Pro/INTRALINK solution directly to MasterControl.

Any time the connection between MasterControl and the Pro/INTRALINK solution is initialized, the MasterControl system automatically synchronizes file packets until there are no more files requiring synchronization. MasterControl also allows users to manually synchronize files and automatically identifies and corrects any existing data gaps. The MasterControl system will automatically notify assignable users if metadata missing from the PDM solution causes the transfer process to fail.
