Jan. 31, 2008 - PRLog -- Raleigh, NC- Fred Adams Jr., Vice President of Fred Adams Paving Company, has announced that they can provide assistance to ensure that projects comply with permeable pavement and stormwater management systems regulations recently defined by the North Carolina General Assembly. This is in an effort to use a more sustainable design and green building techniques and decrease negative environmental impact.

“We feel strongly that permeable pavers can reduce storm water runoff, increase ground water recharge, and decrease pollution in our water streams. These new green building techniques will be very beneficial to reducing the negative impacts that traditional paving techniques may have on our environment,” said Adams. “Our company is dedicated to doing all we can to improve the paver systems used to reduce any environmental damages.”

Benefits of permeable pavement and stormwater management systems include controlling stormwater with the least effect to local streams, filtering surface water naturally through topsoil, replenishing groundwater stores with filtered surface water, adding green space, improving air quality, and reducing the “heat island effect” which increases temperatures where asphalt is in abundance.

The recently passed NC regulations require that all vehicle parking areas, except covered or multi-level parking areas, should include a built-upon area not exceeding 80% of the total area and permeable pavement or stormwater management system constituting the remaining 20% of the total area. Stormwater management systems include, but are not limited to, grass and other pervious surfaces and bioretention ponds, cisterns, and other water retention devices.

Recent green permeable pavement projects completed by Fred Adams Paving include Duke Smart House in Durham, NC and Weaver Cooke Headquarters in Burlington, NC.
