Adolescent substance abuse continues to be a major social problem in the United States.  Kansas Cafferty will be presenting his developmental model for building relationships with adolescents in substance abuse counseling.  He likens the teens internal world to a family home and illustrates the skills that are needed in order to gain the trust that is essential and elusive to the wellbeing and recovery of a teen with a substance use disorder.  

The presenter:  James "Kansas" Cafferty, LAADC, MCA, MFTI is a seasoned adolescent substance abuse professional.  He has served on the NAADAC adolescent specialty committee since 2007.  He has been a therapist and/or director for notable treatment programs such as Newport Academy in Corona Del Mar and Orange, CA and Montecatini in Carlsbad, CA.  He is currently the Director of Clinical Services for Orange County Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine ( http://ocpam.com/ ) located in Newport Beach, CA on the campus of Hoag Hospital, and is the Founder and Program Director for True North Recovery Services, an Outpatient Treatment Program for adults with substance abuse problems and co-occurring disorders located in Carlsbad, CA ( http://www.sandiegoaddictions.com/ )  Kansas has been published in several industry publications including Counselor Magazine and Addiction Professional Magazine.
