New Catholic Satire Gets Faithful To Laugh, ThinkWhat if Dear Abby were a saint? The Ironic Catholic website has published a parody, Dear Communion of Saints: amusingly apt advice for foolish Christians. The tough-love answers try to get Catholics to laugh at themselves in foolish situations.
June 24, 2010 - PRLog -- Winona, MN. June 24, 2010 -- The Minnesota based theologian and blog author named "The Ironic Catholic" has published Dear Communion of Saints: amusingly apt advice for foolish Christians, a parody that imagines what would happen if an advice column such as "Dear Abby" were written by the saints.
The e-book is based on a series from the popular comic website, where run of the mill Christians ask preposterous questions of the Communion of Saints, such as "Is it a sin to substitute carob for chocolate in one's Lenten fast?" and "Can I ask the priest presiding at our wedding to serenade us during the big kiss?" The book turns the American self-help culture on its head and provides tough love wisdom and wit in an affectionate and humorous format. "At a difficult time in the Church and in our economic life, humor can be a healthy release," says the mystery author. "It's not an escape but a way to laugh at ourselves and remember that humor may be our second greatest strength." On June 28, 2010, there is an online book launch party on facebook (http://www.facebook.com/ The Ironic Catholic is a systematic theologian teaching at a small Catholic university in the upper Midwest.
