What Is Product Development Life Cycle

YEREVAN, Armenia - March 16, 2023 - PRLog -- The product development life cycle (PDLC) describes all the stages that a product goes through (from an idea through its market release and beyond). In other words, it focuses on the planning, discovery, development, and evaluation of a product. On the flip side, the product life cycle describes the stages a product goes through from launch to discontinuation. It focuses on the performance of the product in the market and its market share. The cycle typically contains 4 phases (Introduction, Growth, Maturity, and Decline).

If you're planning to build and launch a new product to the market, it's a good idea to be aware of the new product development life cycle to plan your business accordingly.

Apparently, the different stages will require different kinds of effort from many departments in your company, including product managers, UI/UX designers, developers, QA testers, and others.

The Product Development Life Cycle involves the following stages:

1. Ideation: This is the brainstorming stage. The product team looks for ways to solve problems for their potential users. During this phase, the team will generate several product ideas.

2. Validation: By the end of the first stage, the team will have a long list of product concepts. The goal now is to determine which ideas are worth pursuing and which are not. There are several ways of screening ideas to determine which are the most viable. For example, one way to do this is by speaking with people who will likely buy your product.

3. Prototyping: It's time to create a mockup or a working model of your product using wireframing tools like Figma or Sketch. This will help you visualize how the final product will look, feel, and function.

4. Development: Your team is now ready to build a minimum viable product (MVP). Obviously, you don't need to focus on building a full-fledged finished product at this time. Your goal here is to get to the market as quickly as possible and start getting useful feedback from actual users to improve the product.

This stage also includes quality assurance and testing.

5. Launch: After developing and testing its MVP, you are now ready to go live.

6. Improvement: Once launched, analyze how users interact with your product and what features they seem to like. In other words, take real-world feedback from your early users to improve the product. And always keep in mind that launching your product is not the end, it's just the beginning. The final stage of improvement never really ends.
