Birding Field Guides Releases New Version of Birdwatching App for Belize

BIRRI DE HEREDIA, Costa Rica - Jan. 21, 2021 - PRLog -- A new, comprehensive update for the Belize Birds- Field Guide app became available in the iTunes Store in December, 2020. In addition to more images, vocalizations, and information, this free update also includes 30 species not on the Belize list but that could eventually occur in this beautiful birdwatching destination.

Belize is visited by thousands of birders every year. Proximity to the USA and Canada, good infrastructure, political stability, tourism experience, and an abundance of tropical habitats and colorful birds have turned Belize into an easy, go-to nation for birding. As birding has become more popular, more birders have, in turn, come to Belize to see such emblematic birds as the huge Jabiru (the largest stork in the Americas), the sleek Red-capped Manakin, the rare Orange-breasted Falcon, multi-colored toucans, and more.

The goals of the most recent free update of the Belize Birds Field Guide app are to give more tools for app users to find and identify the 600 plus species on the official list for Belize as well as be aware of an additional 30 species that could eventually occur. This is accomplished with a wealth of images for 634 species, vocalizations for more than 600 species, updated range maps, search filters for major habitat, nocturnal species, and other factors that aid identification and learning about Belize birds.

When asked why birds not on the official list for Belize were included in the app, Patrick O'Donnell, head of development and marketing for Birding Field Guides, believes that the app takes on a greater role as a comprehensive tool for both birding in the field and reference before, during, and after a birding trip to Belize.

He said, "A few species are added to the Belize list just about every year. Given the increase in birding, we expect several more species to occur. By including such possible additions to the list, our aim is to give birders the information and tools needed to recognize them. By including this new feature along with the ability to search by major habitats, and additional images and vocalizations, we aspire to offer a comprehensive digital birding app for Belize that will be of use for birders of all skills and levels; from folks just getting started to birders with decades of experience."

This app is currently available for iOS 8.0 or later iPod Touch, iPad, and iPhone devices.
