This App Design Competition is one such initiative that showcases the real potential of our Children. While we take pride in conducting the competition successfully, we also realise that we have an enormous challenge in front of us. The challenge is, to keep up with the pace of the students. The diverse evolving mind of today’s children has continued to amaze us this year and we have witnessed yet again very interesting apps that range from solutions to help dyslexia, autism to reporting vehicles which do not follow safety norms while transporting dangerous materials to disaster management information to spreading of civic sense. We at global DISCOVERY SCHOOLS are proud to have yet again conducted successfully another edition of the Tech Launchpad competition thereby bringing out the best of intellectual and imaginative talent in the word of applications and gaming. The outcome of the app competition and game challenge are astounding as the children have created winning mobile apps and games as mentioned below: Mobile App Competition 1. Helping Hands App (1st Prize): aims at helping children with learning disorders such Autism, Dyslexia and ADHD created by Soumya Swain, Aditi Shukla from Bhopal. 2. Disaster Management App(1st Prize): Provides comprehensive information on how to deal with different types of disasterscreated by Avi Wadhwa, Abhijeet Swain from Bhopal. 3. Report a Truck App (2nd Prize): an app that aims to save lives by reporting trucks that carry dangerous materials in an unsafe manner created by Daksh, Vats, Hrishab from Vadodara, Gotri – Sevasi. 4. CitylifeA2Z App (3rd Prize): provides exhaustive details about which authority to contact in order to report various civic issues,created by Sakshi Pradyumn, Siddhartha Dange, Swastik Singh from Bhopal Game Challenge 1. ComputerMania game (1st Prize): teaches basic and advanced level concepts of Computer Science, created byJiya Rawal, Aadhyan Taneja from Gaziabad. 2. French game (2nd Prize): Helps learn basic French created by Nil, Aditya, Rishiraj from Vadodara – Harni. Competition Program details are as follows: The competition started in January and completed in 5 months receiving a remarkable response from students spanning across India between grades 4 to 9. School students from across India were invited to participate in the competition wherein they created mobile phone applications to serve a social cause or educational computer games. Participants worked in groups of 1-3 members each and created applications that solve problems such as disaster management, learning disorders, reporting non-compliant trucks and many others. The competition was held in 3 stages wherein the participants were required to submit an outline of the proposed app or game in written for round 1. The shortlisted candidates for round 2 were given training in implementing apps through Skype, recorded video tutorials and personalized assistance from global Discovery Schools representatives. Based on the training provided they created functional prototypes of the apps. The teams with most innovative ideas and good implementation were shortlisted for the final round. The winners were judged on the basis of their app’s creativity, effectiveness, ease of use and final implementation. This is the second consecutive year in which global Discovery Schools has organized such a competition for school children and is an example of how the school aims at unlocking the creative potential in today’s children and enabling them with technology to give shape and form to their ideas.
