BCAE Offers Series of Classes Perfect for Bonding with Mom & Dad

From Photography to Black Jack, the Boston Center for Adult Education is Celebrating Moms and Dads with Class During the Months of May and June

March 31, 2015 - PRLog -- (BOSTON, MA) – In honor of Mother’s and Father’s Day the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) invites students to join them for a series of specially designed classes for both moms and dads.

Celebrate Mom with a provincial Italian cooking class, or try something new and creative with Digital Photography for Beginners. For something more relaxing, sign her up for Weekend Drawing for All Levels.

For Father’s Day, the BCAE is offering a variety of classes for every dad. For the father who enjoys a fun card game, Beat the House: Winning Blackjack Strategies is an excellent class for stepping up his game. The dad who likes to relax and enjoy life will appreciate Whiskies of the World.

Mother’s Day

Italian Provincial Cooking – Wednesday, May 6, 2015; 6:00PM-9:00PM; Tuition: $55.00 Member Cost: $47.00 Material Cost: $18.00

Join Instructor Diane Manteca, with her passion for Italian cuisine, and explore the countryside of Italy.  Students will make and eat Swiss chard and bean soup from Campagna, spaghetti with mushroom cream sauce from Bologna, baked fish with tomatoes and peppers from the Coast of Sicily, and lemon crostada from the Amalfi Coast.  Enjoy a glass of wine and cook and eat like a true Italian would!

Spanish Paella and Sangria – Wednesday, May 6, 2015; 6:00PM – 9:00 PM; Tuition: $55.00 Member Cost: $51.00 Material Cost: $20.00

Learn the secret to creating Spain’s most famous and historical meal - Paella! Students will learn about multiple variations of this dish, including vegetarian options. The Valencian dish consists of rice, green vegetables, meat (rabbit, duck, and chicken) snails, beans, and the most expensive spice in the world, saffron from La Mancha. Others only include seafood. During this class students will prepare Paella Mixta, which includes both meat and seafood. Of course, one can't have Paella without the classic Rioja (Red) Sangria. A carbonated wine punch that is a bit acidic, fruity, and lightly sweet. Delicioso!

Digital Photography for Beginners – Thursday, May 7, 2015 – June 11, 2015; 7:45PM-9:45PM; Tuition: $222.00 Member Cost: $189.00

So you have a fancy new camera. Now what? Learn what those buttons and dials mean, and do! Using a combination of hands-on exercises and presentations, this class will explore some of the automatic and manual features of your digital camera and learn how to use them to make the pictures you want.  The class will cover both the technical aspects of picture-taking as well as the creative, including composition and editing.

Divine Desserts of Spain – Saturday, May 9, 2015; 2:00PM-5:00PM; Tution; $45.00 Member Cost: $39.00 Material Cost: $15.00

Over thousands of years every culture from the Romans to the Arabs have created new delicious delicacies.  Each region has their specialty, and modern cooks have added new flavor twists to traditional dishes. In this class we will travel to Spain and learn how to prepare the perfect end of a meal treat! Students will work with flavors of Marcona almond, anise, cinnamon, and orange! Including but not limited to a Bienmesabe from The Canary Islands (Spanish almond cream), Orange Frixuelos (Spanish orange crepes with brandy infusion), Classic Leche Frita (fried milk), varieties of Flan (unique Spanish Custard) and many more...

Stonybrook Fine Arts: Make a Ring Jewelry Workshop – Saturday, May 16, 2015; 4:00PM-8:00PM; Tuition: $150.00

Make rings in wax, then use the wax model to create a finished cast piece in silver or bronze, using different finishing techniques.

Weekend Drawing for All Levels – Saturday, May 30, 2015 – June 13, 2015; 1:00PM-3:00PM; Tuition: $102.00 Member Cost: $87.00

Whatever your level of drawing ability—beginner, intermediate, or advanced—you’ll gain practical insights and knowledge from our easy-to-follow demonstrations. Join us for this weekend workshop, and learn the techniques and skills needed to explore shape, form, volume, perspective, composition, light, and texture. We’ll cover still-life, landscape, and portrait drawing.

Father’s Day

Beat the House: Winning Blackjack Strategies – Saturday, May 9, 2015; 3:00PM-6:00PM; Tuition: $50.00 Member Cost: $43.00 Material Cost: $5.00

Blackjack is simple. Winning is harder! Learn the rules and terminology of this classic game, then discover some strategies that'll maximize your chances of walking away a winner. Should you "hit" or "stand" if the dealer shows a six and you have sixteen? What should you do with a pair of eights if the dealer shows a ten? We'll teach you everything you need to know to join the game, play correctly and confidently, and start having fun.  We'll engage in lots of hands-on instruction, so come ready to play. Oh, and by the way, stand on sixteen if the dealer shows a six or less, and always split eights!

Boston Sunset Kayak Tour­ – Friday, June 5, 2015; 6:00PM-9:00PM; Tuition: $38.00

Paddle down the Charles River and take a romantic tour of the Boston skyline at dusk. There's not better way to spend a summer evening in Boston than being active and finding a quaint couple of hours out on the beautiful Charles River while you take in the best view of the city you'll be able to find.  This is an offsite class.

Join Burger Guru Richard Chudy, co-author of American Burger Revival and creator of Boston Burger Blog, on a juicy, beefy journey exploring the burger in all its glory. Shut down your cell phone, decompress, and prove your mettle by learning essential outdoor survival skills from the experts at the REI Outdoor School. You'll have the chance to learn the best ways to set-up camp for maximum safety and comfort, what you need to know for backwoods camping, how to deal with specific wild animals, priorities in emergency situations, and many other practical outdoor skills.  This is an offsite class.
