By: Scope eKnowledge Center ONIX, an XML-based standard for book metadata, provides a consistent way for publishers, retailers and their supply chain partners to communicate rich information about their products. Conversion of ONIX metadata to MARC21 format requires deep subject matter expertise to map the XML tags of ONIX files with the MARC fields. De Gruyter chose Scope for creating MARC records from ONIX/Klopotek XML files along with bibliographic holding codes provided for selected backlist and new publications. Scope employed its proprietary MARC platform, mARCatTM, for this assignment. The mARCat platform can handle all versions of ONIX (2.0, 3.0 and 3.1).
