How to Remove Lenovo SuperFish Installed Malware

TORONTO - Feb. 23, 2015 - PRLog -- It was discovered recently that Lenovo installed SuperFish Window Shopper malware on their Lenovo line of products. Here are some instructions on how to remove the malware from infected Lenovo systems.

Special Note:  Not all Lenovo products were impacted by this malware threat including ThinkPad, ThinkCentre, Lenovo Desktop, ThinkStation, ThinkServer and System X product lines.

According to the Lenovo website (http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/product_security/superfish), the affected products include the following:

E-Series:        E10-30

Flex-Series:   Flex2 14, Flex2 15, Flex2 14D, Flex2 15D, Flex2 14 (BTM), Flex2 15 (BTM), Flex 10

G-Series:        G410, G510, G40-70, G40-30, G40-45, G50-70, G50-30, G50-45

M-Series:        Miix2 – 8, Miix2 – 10, Miix2 – 11

S-Series:        S310, S410, S415; S415 Touch, S20-30, S20-30 Touch, S40-70,

U-Series:        U330P, U430P, U330Touch, U430Touch, U540Touch,

Y-Series:        Y430P, Y40-70, Y50-70,

Yoga-Series:  Yoga2-11BTM, Yoga2-11HSW, Yoga2-13, Yoga2Pro-13

Z-Series:        Z40-70, Z40-75, Z50-70, Z50-75

According to Lenovo, SuperFish was on some consumer notebook products shipped between September 2014 and February 2015.   SuperFish has been completely disabled from server side interactions since January and according to Lenovo.  Lenovo has stated that it will not preload this software in the future.

Superfish Removal Tools and Options

Lenovo has put together several options for users to remove the Superfish malware from their systems.

You can choose from an automatic removal to manual removal including how to uninstall the SuperFish Application, how to remove the SuperFish Certificate from the Windows Certificate Store including Internet Explorer, Chrome, Opera, Safari, Maxthon and finally how to remove the SuperFish Certificate from Mozilla products including Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird.

Prior to performing any actions on your system, you should backup your system to ensure you can restore if it fails. You can view all SuperFish removal options on Lenovo’swebsite (http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/product_security/superfis...).
